Where bankers are failing, others are moving in. M&S have announced the launch of a new current account and promise 12 in-store branches by the end of the year - including Oxford and Norwich. M&S are pitching themselves as a credible alternative for UK banking services leveraging the trust in its brand to muscle in on a sector beset with scandal, an inexplicable bonus structure and an overall lack of trust.

Jessica Harper, the former Lloyds Head of Fraud and Security has been jailed after pleading guilty to stealing £2.4 million from the banking group. A five year sentence was handed out after she pleaded guilty to the charges, one count of fraud by abuse of position, and a charge of money laundering, for which a concurrent four year sentence was given.

Version One, is urging UK public sector bodies to ditch paper invoices in favour of e-invoicing by 2016 to help comply with European Commission (EC) proposals. The EC announced earlier this year that it intends to make electronic procurement (e-procurement) for public purchases the rule rather than the exception across Europe by mid-2016.
