AP Awards evening - beating their path to success

Thursday 10th October, 2013

How often are the words “collaborate” and “celebrate” drummed into us in our pursuit of better AP and wider P2P practices? Well, on Tuesday that was literally the case as 80 attendees to the APN awards evening picked up bongo drums and boom-whackers and instantly created a harmonious, beautifully orchestrated symphony of music…OK, not quite, but after a bit of effort and a not inconsiderable amount of sweat – by working together (yes, they really did pick up bongo drums), they actually produced something which worked in a very short space of time. More than that, something that was fun – something worth celebrating. A bit like working in AP.

People are fearful of change – and sometimes the fit is not always obvious – but often when previously separate departments, or functions come together, the end results can be surprising – and happily mostly in a good way. That was something which was certainly in evidence in the practices of the winning nominations.  Characterised by a driven and passionate approach to AP, all the winners demonstrated a commitment to finding new and different ways to collaborate between departments and using innovative ideas to drive up their KPIs. But more than that, the winning individuals and teams weren’t only interested in metrics and reports – but focussed on the human element too – they held best practice workshops, celebrated achievements, cakes and birthdays were inseparable - and in more than one company, teams demonstrated that Holy Grail of true employee cohesion - getting together outside of work - many to help local and national charity events.
