Institute of Financial Operations inducts new board

Range of Professions, Industries Reflects Membership of Legacy Associations

Six new members began three-year terms on the Board of Directors of The Institute of Financial Operations earlier this month, the first new board since The Institute was launched in May as the umbrella organisation for four membership associations.


Ten members, including the chairman, continue on from the board that oversaw the four merged organisations – International Accounts Payable Professionals, International Accounts Receivable Professionals, National Association of Purchasing & Payables, and The Association for Work Process Improvement – and approved the creation of The Institute.

“These talented people from all walks of financial operations will help us attain our dual goals of continuing to deliver value in our key areas of focus while at the same time addressing the full spectrum of financial operations,” said Thomas M. Bohn, president and CEO. “The Institute was formed because the various aspects of financial operations are no longer in silos. At the same time, the members we serve still need information, resources, and professional development in their specialties.”

Chairman Douglas G. Hartsema of Huntington Bank praised the caliber of the board. “I was really excited to see the large number of folks who wanted to join the board this year. We were able to select some strong leaders to complement those already serving.”

The new board members are:

  • Ramil Bahl, president and CEO, PRGX Global Inc.
  • Larry Connolly, CEO, Connolly Inc.
  • Andre M. Hale, director of accounts payable, The Walt Disney Co.
  • Kathleen Hamburger, executive vice chairman, 3i Infotech Billing & Payments.
  • Derrick Murphy, president and CEO, ibml.
  • Kathleen Shannon, AVP accounting systems design and development, Costco Wholesale.

In addition to Hartsema as chairman, board members continuing are:

  • Kathy Strasser, WAUSAU Financial Systems, vice chair and treasurer
  • Michael Mallon, Northeastern University, vice chair and secretary
  • Fidel Coutou, Rogers Communications Inc., vice chair, education and certification
  • Dan Valha, The Walt Disney Co., vice chair, membership and conferences
  • Robert Lund, eGistics, vice chair, sponsor development
  • William Lowman, Shuffield Lowman P.A., vice chair, legal and compliance
  • Jill Farina, Aurora Health Care
  • Donna Jenkins, Delta Airlines Inc.
