Irish Businesses Could Save €240m by e-Invoicing

Tuesday 14 February, 2012

A new e-invoicing pilot scheme has been launched by the Irish Government which could lead to the Government and businesses saving up to €240m a year, while reducing processing time, red tape and keeping the supply chain moving with more clarity and with prompt payment.

Initially the departments trialling the new technologies include the Department of Justice, the HSE, the Department of Defence and the OPW. Brian Hayes, the Minister for State with special responsibiltity for the Office of Public Works, said that the full roll-out of e-invoicing could lead to multi-euro savings for the exchequer.

This move by the Irish Government is set against the background of the EU target for all invoices sent between businesses to be electronic by 2020. One of the objectives of the pilot scheme is to create a standard format whcih will be acceptable within all the agencies in the State.
