Surrey Police Decide Against Outsourcing to G4S

Friday 13th July, 2012

Plans to outsource parts of Surrey police have been shelved in part because of security fears following the security firm G4S (who was in the bidding for the partnership), failed to deliver necessary staff in the run up to the Olympics.

West Midlands Police Authority, which was also considering outsourcing several back and mid office functions has now decided to defer the decision until after a police commissioner has been elected.

The Autority's Chairman, Peter Williams said that potential PCC candidates were now actively campaigning to put an end to business partnering. Mr Williams added:

"Members agreed today that it is right that we should suspend our involvement in the programme at this time, and that we should look to withdraw altogether following a more detailed assessment of our options in September."
