Over a three year period, Birmingham based dentist, Dr Joyce Trail defrauded the NHS out of £1.4m - most of which was spent on exotic holidays and designer shoes. She has been warned that she faces a "substantial" jail term.

The court heard that Dr Trail had issued more than 7,000 false claims for which she created false paperwork and fake invoices. On top of which the dentist had made 100 claims for people who were dead.

Her fraud was allowed to continue with the help of her daughter who was working in the administration side of the business at the time the fraud took place, ensuring that all the usual checks were not made - or were simply and complicitly ignored.
