As I hear the words “Christmas number one” tumbling out of the radio, I’m suddenly reminded that although the comment is perhaps a little precipitous, we are already at the halfway point of 2009 – time for a little reflection.. A year which started with economic storm clouds brewing , has seen those clouds continue to gather pace and we find ourselves in the midst of the most uncertain economic situation in living memory. In the UK, an already unsettled situation has been compounded by the furore surrounding the increasing public distrust in the Parliamentary system.

"Snow, snow, snow - mum.....snow!" Cries from my daughters waft down the stairs as they open their curtains and see southern England's excuse for snow apologetically tumble out of the leaden skies. Not to be deterred by the increasingly rain-like substance - boots are on, gloves are on and they're outside before they've even shaken the sleep from their eyes! |

Well, what a day...! After the usual fraught beginnings, you know the sort - children to wake up, breakfast to throw down them and scurrying off in the car, I could finally clear a space in between the Coco Pops and the Shreddies and settle down to a day's work. Yes, today I worked from home and had the pleasure of witnessing a scurrying of a different kind.....the squeaking kind....the kind with a tail!!!! Agh, a mouse. Well, that's one of the charms of living in the country I suppose. |
